Guess what? It’s our birthday! Filipino BC is about to hit the one-year mark, and what an incredible journey it has been! We couldn’t have done it without the support and love from our amazing community, and we are so grateful for every moment shared.

Reflecting on the past year, we’re thrilled to share some of our proudest accomplishments with you. In 2023, we launched Kusina, a warm and welcoming community kitchen serving live-In caregivers and temporary foreign workers. This initiative removed barriers to access by bringing together settlement workers, social workers, mental health professionals, and legal experts every other weekend to support those in need. We also kicked off the Bayani Oral History Project, capturing the invaluable experiences of healthcare and hospital workers during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. And finally, we conducted the largest quantitative study ever conducted in the Filipino community in BC, identifying service and cultural gaps while envisioning the future Filipino Cultural Centre.

But our journey is far from over. As we look ahead to 2024 and 2025, we are filled with excitement and ambition for what we can achieve together. Your voices have guided us, and we have big plans to make your dreams a reality.

• Legal Advocacy and Outreach: Tailored support for temporary foreign workers, live-in caregivers, and international students.

• Peer Support Programs: Build supportive networks and resources for newcomers.

• Youth Mental Health Programming: Empower young leaders with dedicated mental health initiatives.

• Senior Support Services: Extend warmth and care through friendly visits social programs, and support.

• Kusina Expansion: Nourish even more individuals in need through the expansion of our community kitchen.

• Networking Events: Foster connections among students, business professionals, creatives, youth, and newcomers.

• STEM Classes: Inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders with engaging STEM education.

But we can't do it alone. An ambitious agenda like this needs our community’s support to make this collective vision a reality.
